You can attend the pharmacy for many minor illnesses and purchase over the counter treatment.
The CPCS service has recently expanded into the Pharmacy First service, meaning pharmacists can now provide treatment for more common conditions e.g. infections.
These services allow patients to receive quick and convenient care, freeing up GP appointments for more complex cases.
CPCS (Community Pharmacist Consultation Service)

Pharmacy First Service
The Pharmacy First Service provides advanced care for seven common illnesses, with Pharmacists being able to prescribe antibiotics or antivirals without a visit to the surgery.
If pregnant, you CANNOT be treated through this service.

How does it work?
- If you phone the surgery with any symptoms suitable for the Pharmacy First Service or CPCS, we will complete a referral to your local pharmacy. NHS 111 will do the same.
- You can either have a consultation over the phone or you can attend the pharmacy to be assessed. This can be done whenever most convenient for you, not necessarily on the same day.
- A qualified pharmacist will discuss your symptoms and medical history, offering advice on any recommended treatment. If treating a condition under the Pharmacy First service, antibiotics can be prescribed.
- If your condition is ongoing or worsening, a review with a GP will be suggested.
- All consultations with the pharmacist will be received by us and documented on your records.
If you have any queries about the services, please contact your local pharmacy who can answer any questions.
